SKYLINES for Orchestra (2023)

Skylines for Orchestra was commissioned by the Iridium Saxophone Quartet who premiered the original version on April 1, 2014 in College Station, Texas. A recording of the version for saxophone quartet is available on Blue Griffen Records Cat. # BGR481

From resplendent alpine mountain ranges to urban concrete jungles, this piece takes as its inspiration the infinite variety of design created by earth meeting the sky. At first linear and then becoming multidimensional, these designs are further enhanced by changes in light and season.

The variation in mood and color of such phenomena are represented musically through broad melodies supported by spirited rhythmic canons and spacious lyrical gestures. The melody is often presented “in harmony” at the interval of the 7th or 9th creating a translucent musical aura.
